The Singing Women Of West Texas

HISTORY

It all began as a dream for a ministry that would allow Baptist women in church music to have an avenue of service beyond their weekly worship service participation.  With fourteen groups coming together on August 2, 1994, the Singing Women of Texas was born.  The first performance was in Waco, Texas, for the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Church Music Department of the Baptist General Convention of Texas.  362 women sang several pieces then combined with the Singing Men of Texas for three additional selections. Each chapter from all over the state then organized as they wished. The Singing Women chapters have never wavered in their commitment to take the gospel to the lost and encourage fellow believers through music. God continues to provide numerous opportunities for the Singing Women to sing. Concerts have been presented at churches, prisons, banquets, civic club meetings, amusement parks and conferences. We currently have five active chapters across the state.

Our chapter, under the direction of Donna Chambers, has been very active since that first performance.  We have sung in churches across the United States and Canada.  We have traveled to Europe to sing at the European Baptist Convention. We had the privilege to join with the Singing Women of Texas once again at Waco to celebrate our 5th anniversary in 1999.  Many of the original members are still with the organization and new members at joining each month.
